A HCRRUN delegation made up of the 1st Rapporteur, Dr Wiyao Evalo, and resource persons met this Friday, 12 May 2017, with the populations of the Savanes Region. This information and exchange meeting is part of the implementation of the CVJR reparations programme aimed at compensating victims of political violence and serious human rights violations from 1958 to 2005 in Togo.  Responding to HCRRUN’s invitation, the populations of this region of the country turned out in large numbers to listen to the message of forgiveness and reconciliation brought by the delegation.

In addition to the introductory remarks by the 1st Rapporteur, who presented the context of the APG to HCRRUN, two other presentations, respectively on transitional justice and why Togo chose it, and on the different forms of reparations, were delivered by Mr Ouro Bossi Tchacondo and Mrs Anaté Kouméalo, both resource persons with HCRRUN.

Participants in this meeting, among whom there were also victims, raised several concerns to which the members of the delegation provided answers.

The Prefect of Tône, Mr Tchimbiandja Douti, for his part, welcomed the choice of his town to host this meeting and praised the will of the Togolese Government and the actions of HCRRUN, which help to soothe hearts and reconcile the daughters and sons of Togo.

This meeting also saw the presence of the prefects of the region’s four other prefectures, their mayors, as well as members of the local peace committees.
