On September 12, 2025, the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) organized a meeting with new orphans of victims who died during the sociopolitical events of 2005 and their guardians. This initiative is part of their integration into the scholarship program launched by the institution, in application of recommendation 49 of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR).
This recommendation advocates for “the granting of a scholarship to child victims of these violences, as well as annual schooling assistance for five years.”
During this meeting, the new beneficiaries received their first scholarship check in the presence of their guardians and High Commission officials. This gesture marks the effective start of their support within the framework of the program.
In her introductory remarks, the President of HCRRUN, Ms. Awa Nana-Daboya, urged the children to show discipline and diligence:
“I particularly invite the children, primary beneficiaries of these scholarships, to respect their educators and to dedicate this time to their studies and learning. The sacrifice made by the State for your future must under no circumstances be betrayed by deviant behaviors such as idleness, alcohol consumption, or drug use. ”
Each orphan admitted to the program receives annual financial support intended to cover tuition fees, supplies, and other education-related expenses. This support is reinforced by educational and psychological monitoring, to promote their development and success.
Through this action, HCRRUN demonstrates its commitment to victims, particularly the most vulnerable, and continues its role in consolidating truth, justice, and reconciliation. For the orphans present, this meeting marks the beginning of a new chapter, under the sign of hope and perseverance.
