In Médjé: HCRRUN inaugurates new school infrastructure as part of community reparations
On September 2, 2025, the High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) carried out the official handover of the school infrastructure built in Médjé, in the Kpélé Prefecture. The ceremony brought together administrative, local and traditional authorities, as well as beneficiary communities, underscoring the importance of this project, which forms part of the community reparations recommended by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR).
A symbolic and reparative gesture
This infrastructure responds to CVJR recommendation 54, which calls for collective and community reparations in areas affected by intercommunity conflicts or population displacement. They aim to restore trust and strengthen social cohesion through works of public benefit.
In her address, Mrs Awa Nana Daboya, President of HCRRUN, stressed that “each piece of infrastructure built is not only a physical construction, but also a living symbol of reparation, reconciliation and lasting peace. Today, HCRRUN hands over this school infrastructure to you with the conviction that our children will receive an education here that upholds the virtues of mutual forgiveness and acceptance of differences, while also condemning tribal hatred, sectarianism, exclusion and violence in all its forms”.
Infrastructure tailored to the community’s needs
In addition to modern classrooms, the Médjé school now has a solar-powered borehole, a public fountain, an electricity supply system powered by solar panels, as well as solar streetlights to secure and illuminate the site.
These achievements improve the living environment for pupils and the entire community, thereby meeting urgent needs in education and access to basic social services.
Recognition from beneficiary communities
On behalf of the people of Médjé, the Mayor of Kpélé 1, Mr Batchey Komlan, expressed his gratitude to HCRRUN and the Government for this reparative gesture. He recalled that this infrastructure represents an important step in restoring dignity and strengthening social cohesion within the community.
HCRRUN’s renewed commitment
The ceremony concluded with the cutting of the symbolic ribbon and the unveiling of commemorative plaques. Through this act, HCRRUN reaffirms its commitment to continue implementing the Reparation Programme, which has already made it possible to build similar infrastructure in several localities across the country, in addition to individual compensation.
By providing Médjé with a modern, functional school facility, HCRRUN is helping to heal the wounds of the past and lay the foundations for a peaceful future for children and future generations.
