Implementation of the Reparations Program / HCRRUN Reaches Out to the Population
On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, HCRRUN is launching an information and exchange tour with the people of Togo. These meetings aim to inform them about the implementation process of the reparations program as developed by the CVJR.
According to Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya, President of HCRRUN, ” During these exchanges, we will remind the population of the choice they made in 2008 when translating the terms of the Global Political Agreement into action through the National Consultations, which subsequently led to the work of the CVJR. We will inform and engage with these communities on the relevance of reparations in a country undergoing a Transitional Justice process.“.
Other points on the agenda include informing the population about the reparations, which begin with these tours, followed by purification ceremonies and then compensation; information on the funds allocated by the Togolese Government to provide reparations for a portion of the victims who are not only eligible for the Reparations Program but are also in a situation of vulnerability identified for 2005; and finally, securing their support for the success of the process.
To this end, three delegations composed of HCRRUN members and resource persons will visit the eight (08) regions created by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) to facilitate its work at the time.
