The celebration of the 40th edition of International Women’s Day was marked in Togo by various events. As the guest of honor on this occasion, Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya, President of the High Commissioner for Reconciliation and Strengthening National Unity (HCRRUN), took part in the events alongside the thousand women gathered at the Palais des Congrès in Lomé this Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

Held under the theme ” Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030“, this 2017 edition was marked in Togo by several preliminary awareness sessions on subjects including, ” the situation of women in the world of work: the case of Togo“, ” employment opportunities for women“, ” support for women’s entrepreneurship in Togo: actions and results“.

The climax on March 8 was featured by a presentation on the importance of identity documents in the world of work, which was given by Mrs. Tchamdja Kpatcha Kobauyah, Director of Nationality, Seals, and Civil Identity, to raise awareness among women on this subject.

Opening the session, Mrs. Tchabinandi Kolani Yentcharé, Minister for the Promotion of Women, noted in her keynote address the relevance of the theme chosen this year and demonstrated the primordial role of women in the world of work. I invite everyone to integrate into the customs of the world of work the ‘values’ that guarantee equality, not only for reasons of equity and respect for human rights but also because it is a prerequisite for achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, she stated. She then highlighted the Togolese government’s achievements in gender equity and outlined the prospects.

The meeting was rich in color and sound and saw the participation of thousands of women from all parts of the national territory and also from the West African sub-region.
