“Despite the pain, despite the wounds, rise up and move forward to build Togo, our country.” This was the core message delivered on Friday, May 12, 2017, by the Second Rapporteur of the High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening National Unity (HCRRUN), Mrs Claudine Ahianyo Kpondzo, to the population of the Western Plateaux Region.

Held at the Kpalimé Town Hall, the meeting formed part of the regional information and consultation tour organised by HCRRUN to raise public awareness of the Reparations Programme. Participants included victims, members of the public from various social backgrounds, prefects from the region, local authorities, traditional leaders, members of the Peace Committees, and other stakeholders, all of whom attended in large numbers to gain a better understanding of the ongoing process.

Following the presentations outlining the reasons for the establishment of HCRRUN and the objectives of the Reparations Programme, participants engaged in an interactive discussion session, which helped address the concerns expressed by many attendees at the beginning of the meeting.

Mrs Claudine Ahianyo Kpondzo expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, stating: “My impressions are very positive because the people we invited came, asked questions, and shared their concerns. This is exactly what we hoped for in order to improve our approach and strengthen the implementation of the reparations process.”

Following the Kpalimé meeting, the regional tour was scheduled to continue in Atakpamé, where a similar information and consultation session would be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in the main hall of the Bishopric.
