The High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) resumed its activities on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, with the compensation of non-vulnerable victims from the Savanes region. This resumption, necessitated by the health crisis linked to COVID-19, comes thanks to an ordinance issued by the Head of State. Already, at HCRRUN headquarters in Lomé, victims who suffered violence related to wildlife at the time are receiving these compensations, characterized by the payment of indemnities provided for them by the CVJR, as well as psychological and medical consultations.

“ Today, thank God, Togo is managing with respect for barrier measures, and consequently, in resuming these activities, we had to rigorously adhere to the health measures decreed by the State. But what encouraged us the most is an ordinance from July 3rd extending the state of emergency against COVID-19. Specifically, in this ordinance, there is an article that authorizes the resumption of activities so that the life of the nation is not blocked, (…) and that activities can be carried out by Institutions,” emphasized the President of HCRRUN, Ms. Awa Nana Daboya.

It should be noted that for now, registered victims are transported by 60-seater buses, with 30 people per bus, from the prefectures of the Savanes region to Lomé to be compensated. This is pending the expiration of the 45-day extension of the state of emergency for other provisions.
