The HCRRUN resumed its activities to compensate victims of political violence in Togo on July 13, 2020. This new phase mainly takes into account victims of the wildlife incidents who gave their testimony to the CVJR. For nearly two weeks now, close to three hundred people have been transported to Lomé in small groups to be compensated. In this period of the pandemic linked to the coronavirus, this procedure initiated by the HCRRUN to ease the suffering of victims while awaiting their symbolic reparation has been widely welcomed by the population of the Savanes region in general and that of Grand Oti in particular. These populations wished to express this gratitude to the Head of State through the HCRRUN.

Having come to see off the fourth wave of victims transported to Lomé to be compensated on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, the Canton Chief of Mango, El hadj……. expressed aloud the gratitude of his people. «The population of Grand Oti as a whole has suffered since the period of independence, and even the advent of democracy did not improve things. But steps have begun to be taken since the arrival of the current Head of State and especially with the HCRRUN programme. We hope that, in keeping with his phrase never again on the land of our ancestors, we can all work with the HCRRUN to make this a reality», he declared.

The Canton Chief of Mango, also Vice-President of the Prefectural Council of the Regional Council of Traditional Chiefs representing Grand Oti, continued by confiding to the representatives of the HCRRUN present in the region as part of the mission to transport the victims, « the honour and satisfaction felt by the population of Mango and its surroundings to see their daughter and sister at the head of this institution, and they wish to thank the President of the Republic for this ».

For his part, the Prefect of Oti, Colonel Wadja Gbandi, when welcoming the first wave of victims on their return to Mango on July 15, reminded them of the importance the government attaches to the reconciliation process, which is why the HCRRUN mobilised means of transport to take them to Lomé, accommodate them, compensate them and then bring them back home. While once again offering them the apologies of the Head of State and the entire government for everything that happened to them in the past, he invited them to mutual forgiveness for better living together.

The long-awaited compensation for victims in the Savanes region regarding the wildlife incidents and the Barkoissi conflict has been effective since July 13, 2020. After two postponements of its programme of activities due respectively to the electoral period and then the state of health emergency because of the coronavirus disease, the HCRRUN began an experimental phase consisting of transporting victims in small groups from their locality to be compensated in Lomé.

This experimental phase will enable the institution to adapt to the new health requirements in order to continue its activities calmly.
