Implementation of the Reparations Program / The Seed of Peace Sown in Atakpamé

Following the populations of the Western Plateaux region, it was the turn of those in the Eastern Plateaux region to receive the delegation of the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

Atakpamé, which was severely affected by violence and human rights violations in 2005, welcomed the delegation with hope. The delegation engaged with the population on the reparations program through two presentations. Following discussions that provided an opportunity to hear their concerns and gather proposals for improvement, the population returned home with confidence in a brighter future. They nevertheless urged the members of the HCRRUN delegation to make every effort to expedite the process so that the actual compensation payments could begin as soon as possible.

The Second Rapporteur of HCRRUN, Mrs. Claudine KPONDZO AHIANYO, expressed her satisfaction with the Atakpamé stage: “We leave this Atakpamé stage satisfied, with joy and, above all, with gratitude that the seed has been sown and that, gradually, Atakpamé, as the Head of State has said, will never again experience violence and division. Each of us is committed to taking personal and collective measures so that Togo may finally be freed from all its demons.”

The delegation will next travel to Tsévié, where an information and exchange session is scheduled to take place on May 19, 2017.
