Implementation of the Reparations Program / Residents of Agoè-Nyivé Prefecture Informed
The FOPADESC premises in Agoè-Nyivé hosted an information and exchange tour on the reparations program this Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Estimated at one thousand, participants from the Agoè-Nyivé prefecture and surrounding localities listened to the message of peace and forgiveness from the HCRRUN delegation led by its president, Mrs. Awa Nana Daboya. “We have come to you to explain the progress we are making at HCRRUN and to gather your views on our approach,” she said. She called on the people of the Agoè-Nyivé prefecture to pursue true reconciliation for the development of Togo.

As usual, after the resource persons provided explanations on transitional justice, the floor was given to the audience; some sought to understand the eligibility criteria for the compensation program, while others called on alleged perpetrators to show contrition for sincere reconciliation in Togo. “We are told about forgiveness on the victims’ side, while those who committed the acts do not come forward to ask for it. That is what I don’t understand,” one participant remarked. Land expropriations and the desire to submit new depositions to the CVJR were other areas of interest for the population.

The President of HCRRUN, Awa Nana Daboya, and the accompanying resource persons provided appropriate answers to all these concerns, calling for hearts to be soothed and for understanding and forgiveness. The Prefect of Golfe, Hodabalo Awaté, spoke in the same vein, urging all Togolese to look to the future with serenity. “I have done my part. I have forgiven,” he said.
