The High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) held a national workshop from 1st to 4 December 2015 in Kpalimé, 120 km north-west of Lomé, to validate its 2016–2018 strategic plan and its 2016 annual work plan and budget.

In addition to the High Commissioners and the Institution’s staff, the meeting brought together representatives of the Presidency of the Republic, the Prime Minister’s Office, the institutions of the Republic, ministerial departments, international partner organisations of Togo, the Defence and Security Forces, traditional chieftaincy, civil society and the media.

Over these five days, participants worked on the various activities that HCRRUN must carry out over the next three years, the implementation timetable for these activities, as well as the human and financial resources to be mobilised for effective implementation of the recommendations and the reparations programme advocated by the CVJR.

“The adoption of the proposed strategic plan is a crucial phase in the implementation of the recommendations of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) in order to turn the page on the dark chapters of Togo’s history,” declared Awa Nana-Daboya, President of HCRRUN.

Measures to be taken to involve all components of the Togolese people in reflection on political and institutional reforms were also discussed during this meeting.

In officially opening the proceedings, the Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice and Relations with the Institutions of the Republic, Pius Kokouvi Agbetomey, expressed the Government’s willingness to do everything possible to ensure the success of the mission entrusted to HCRRUN, in order to enable the harmonious development of the Togolese nation.

HCRRUN is supported in this endeavour by several of Togo’s technical and financial partners, including UNDP and the European Union.
