As part of its mission, the Commission for Reflection on Political, Institutional and Constitutional Reforms received, in audience this Thursday, March 9, 2017, a group of ambassadors accredited to Togo.

This meeting took place in the HCRRUN meeting room, located in the CENI building, which also houses the Reforms Commission.

This meeting, organised at the request of the diplomats, consisted of discussions with the Commission on their willingness to support Togo at this stage of building its democracy and to share their vision of the ongoing work on political, institutional and constitutional reforms.

“ We came for an initial contact and an informal exchange with this commission on issues that are very important for Togo, and we brought our collective support to the work that has been undertaken, to this process aimed at revitalising the spirit of reforms. Finally, we collectively expressed the wish that the commission can do useful work for Togo,” said Marc Fonbaustier, Ambassador of France to Togo, speaking on behalf of the delegation.

For the President of the Commission, Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya, by getting to work since February 1st, 2017, the Commission first considered doing its work based on the documentation of all past agreements and dialogues, and then visiting and meeting all political, state and non-state actors.

“ This inclusion work that we are doing, meeting and listening to everyone, pleased our friends, and rightly so the group of 5, namely the Ambassadors of the EU, France, Germany, the United States and UNDP, asked to meet us and we received them. The discussion was most pleasant, and in view of the various hearings we have had, we remain convinced that the commission is on the right track to produce reforms that reflect Togolese people and that bring Togolese people together,” said Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya. She also welcomed this approach by the group of 5, which is very strong support for their work.
