Implementation of the reparations programme / Purification ceremonies will take place from 3 to 9 July 2017

At the proposal of HCRRUN, the Government declared the week from 3 to 9 July 2017 as Purification Week, in order to comply with Recommendation 47 of the CVJR, which states:“…that all religious denominations (Christian churches, the Muslim Union, traditional chiefs, traditional priests, and all other officially recognised denominations) be invited to pool their efforts to ‘purify Togo’, facilitate the repose of the souls of deceased or missing victims, heal wounded hearts, and provide spiritual support for reconciliation.”

This recommendation also specifies that the Government will assume responsibility for and coordination of the process.

The decree adopted by the Council of Ministers on Thursday, 22 June 2017, recalls that the purification ceremonies will be conducted by the four major religious denominations throughout the country. These include the Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church, the Muslim faith, and traditional religions.

The Reparations Programme launched last March by HCRRUN is thus entering a new phase, which will subsequently be followed by the actual compensation phase.
