Implementation of the reparations programme / Purification ceremonies will take place from 3 to 9 July 2017
On the proposal of the HCRRUN, the government decreed the week from 3 to 9 July 2017 as Purification Week in order to comply with Recommendation 47 of the CVJR, which states “…that all religious denominations (Christian churches, the Muslim Union, traditional chiefs, traditional priests and all other officially recognised denominations) be invited to pool their energies to ‘purify Togo’, facilitate the rest of the souls of deceased or missing victims, soothe wounded hearts and provide spiritual support for reconciliation.”
This recommendation also specifies that it is the government that will assume responsibility and coordination.
The decree adopted by the Council of Ministers on Thursday 22 June 2017 recalls that the purification ceremonies will be carried out by the four major religious denominations throughout the country. These include the Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church, the Muslim faith and traditional religions.
The reparations programme launched last March by the HCRRUN is thus entering a new phase, which will later be followed by the actual compensation phase.
