The Ombudsman of the Republic and the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) held a working and exchange meeting this Wednesday, March 9, 2022, with the Ambassadors of the Group of 5 in Togo, namely the European Union, France, the Federal Republic of Germany, the United States, and the UNDP.

The aforementioned diplomats came to learn about the progress of activities of the two institutions led by Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya. The Ombudsman of the Republic and President of the HCRRUN and her collaborators provided their guests with an update on their various activities as well as their short- and medium-term perspectives.

Regarding the Ombudsman of the Republic, her new responsibilities under the new organic law as well as the actions undertaken since her swearing-in on October 24, 2021, and the declaration of her assets before the Constitutional Court on January 24, 2022, were presented to the Ambassadors.

Concerning the HCRRUN, a summary of the implementation of the recommendations and the reparations program of the CVJR was provided, and clarifications were given particularly on compensation, medical and psychological care, monitoring of vulnerable victims, as well as community and collective reparations currently being implemented.

At the conclusion of this meeting, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, spokesperson for the G5, stated: “These exchanges of information have enabled us to identify the needs and to know in which direction to support these two Institutions.”
