The President of the Malian transition, Col. Assimi Goita received, on Saturday, July 2, 2022, a delegation from the Association of Mediators of UEMOA Member Countries (AMP-UEMOA), led by its President, Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya. In Koulouba, where the Malian transitional presidency is based, this delegation, introduced by the Mediator of the Republic of Mali, Mrs Aminata Sanogo, aimed, during this visit, to express its support and solidarity with the Malian people, faced with the very trying consequences of the ECOWAS and UEMOA sanctions.

On the eve of the ECOWAS summit of July 3, 2022, in Accra, AMP-UEMOA called for the lifting of sanctions against Mali and Burkina Faso. To this end, the President of AMP-UEMOA indicated that she had urged the Heads of State of the sub-regional community to work towards this. “ If we do not react, we do not know which countries will be targeted next, nor what short- and long-term consequences States will suffer. When we consider that ECOWAS and UEMOA have, as their founding texts, the defence and protection of the rights and interests of the citizens of the community, we do not understand the meaning of these sanctions. We are here to express our solidarity and to say that, in our role as Mediator, we are working to defend citizens’ rights, wherever they live within our community area “, said Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya, after the discussions with Col. Goita.

According to AMP-UEMOA, the freedom of movement and economic and social rights are the most precious assets. They are the first steps towards reaching the podium of true democracy. The Mediators of the UEMOA area cannot remain indifferent when millions and millions of citizens of one or more countries are deprived of their fundamental rights. Thus, with reference to fundamental international texts, AMP-UEMOA works tirelessly to consolidate the rule of law, good governance, the promotion of lasting peace and social cohesion in the sub-regional area, where populations are increasingly thriving. AMP-UEMOA’s citizen contribution to nation-building remains a challenge.
