Start of compensation for non-vulnerable victims of 2005 this Monday in Kpalimé
The High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) launched operations on Monday, 9 April 2018, in Kpalimé for the compensation of non-vulnerable victims of the 2005 events from the prefectures of Kloto, Agou, and Kpélé. The team will continue the compensation process in the region, specifically in Dayes, starting Wednesday, 11 April 2018.
Approximately 310 victims are expected at this stage. For Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya, President of HCRRUN, the purpose of these compensation measures is to demonstrate that these victims have a recognized status: “Recognizing a person who has suffered harm as having the status of a victim, and committing to provide reparations—while acknowledging that what has been broken cannot be fully restored—the commitment to provide some form of relief is a positive step.”
