Following the establishment of the Local Peace Committee (LPC) in Kpendjal-Ouest the previous Monday and Tuesday, it was the turn of the Oti-Sud Prefecture to establish its own committee on Friday, November 29, 2019.

Prior to its establishment, members of the High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN), together with experts in peacebuilding and conflict management, provided training to the participants. At the end of the training, the population, represented by delegates from various social groups, designated seven (7) individuals to serve on the Local Peace Committee.

Mrs. Soulé Fatouma was subsequently elected Chairperson of the committee.

The other members are:

  • Sibiti Aoufo, Vice-Chairperson;
  • Male N’wéyabou, Secretary;
  • Pastor Gassoussi Kokou, Deputy Secretary;
  • Douti Adzra, Treasurer;
  • Chief Famba Mongbé Nanoumbé, First Counsellor;
  • M’batiba Tairou, Second Counsellor.

The Local Peace Committee is responsible for contributing to the preservation of peace within the community, particularly by promoting dialogue and reconciliation among parties involved in conflicts.

The establishment of this committee reflects HCRRUN’s commitment to strengthening local mechanisms for conflict prevention and peaceful conflict management, while promoting dialogue, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence within communities.
