New Year’s Message from the President of HCRRUN
At the beginning of this New Year 2019, the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) gives thanks to Almighty and Merciful God for enabling the Institution to successfully carry out its mandate throughout the past year.
In this spirit of gratitude, and on behalf of my fellow Members of HCRRUN, the Institution’s staff, and in my own name, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy, peaceful, prosperous, and fruitful New Year 2019 to all Togolese people and to every sector of our society.
For HCRRUN, 2018 was a year of sustained action devoted to the implementation of the reparations programme, particularly in the areas of medical and psychological care and financial compensation for victims.
The first phase of the programme, conducted over a period of ten months—from 12 December 2017 to 17 September 2018—produced encouraging results. These achievements reflect the strong commitment of the Highest Authorities of the State to “provide fair and equitable reparations to the victims identified and registered by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR),” as reaffirmed by His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of the Republic. HCRRUN takes this opportunity to express its profound appreciation and highest consideration to the Head of State and to all the national authorities for their continued support.
To the victims who have already benefited from the reparations programme, HCRRUN extends its sincere gratitude for their confidence in and commitment to the process.
To those whose compensation is still pending, I wish to reassure them that HCRRUN has not forgotten them. They will progressively benefit from the programme as the various phases are implemented. Throughout 2019, HCRRUN will continue the operations already initiated under the second phase of the reparations programme, with the firm determination to respond progressively to the legitimate expectations of all eligible victims.
To all Togolese citizens, HCRRUN reiterates the noble aspiration of building “a reconciled and peaceful society, founded on tolerance and free from any spirit of vengeance or revenge,” in the words of His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of the Republic.
HCRRUN also reaffirms the importance of fostering peaceful coexistence, national unity, and social harmony among all citizens.
Recognising that “reconciliation is both an objective and a source of hope,” as emphasised by the President of the Republic, HCRRUN calls upon every citizen to contribute to the implementation of the recommendations and reparations programme entrusted to it by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR), which the State continues to implement with the valuable support of its international friends and development partners.
May this message convey HCRRUN’s renewed gratitude to all.
Happy New Year 2019. May it be a year of peace, hard work, prosperity, and success for all.
Mrs. Awa NANA-DABOYA
President of HCRRUN
