The Members of HCRRUN received in audience this Friday, April 19, 2019 in the morning, the Coordinator of the United Nations System in Togo, Mr. Damien Mama, accompanied by the UNDP Peace and Development Advisor, Mr. Christian Shingirou, as part of a working and courtesy visit.
The President of HCRRUN and the two Rapporteurs, in the presence of the Principal Assistant Mrs. Mbrou Antoinette, exchanged with their guests on several topics related to the preservation of peace in Togo. The discussions focused on project activities to strengthen peace infrastructures and improve relations between civilian populations and law enforcement forces in the country’s border areas.
Indeed, in the face of increasingly persistent terrorist threats and recurring cross-border conflicts in the sub-region, strengthening peace infrastructures, particularly Local Peace Committees, is necessary through training and capacity-building actions to enable them to properly fulfill their role as early warning, conflict prevention, and mediation mechanisms with a view to preserving peace in the prefectures.
The two parties thus agreed to include activities to this effect for the benefit of members of Local Peace Committees in the country.
