HCRRUN 2022 objectives achieved: 3,361 victims compensated for a total amount of CFAF 2,556,120,000
The High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) held its annual review conference on Thursday, December 22, 2022, in Lomé. This meeting helped inform the public about the institution’s activities during 2022 and to present its financial report.
Indeed, several individual compensation sessions were held in the Kara, Plateaux, Maritime and Central regions. In total, 3,361 victims were reached, for an amount of CFAF 2,556,120,000. With regard to the community reparations component, and in light of Recommendation 54 of the CVJR, the institution received two school buildings in the village of Pouwedeou (Sotouboua). With a total cost of CFAF 47,551,382, this achievement, which remains a priority for the beneficiary populations, will enable the Pouwedeou community and surrounding areas to more easily support children’s schooling.
Another action carried out by HCRRUN in 2022 was the launch of the scholarship programme for orphans of victims of the unfortunate political events of 2005. Thus, 158 children benefited from this programme, which grants each of them an amount of CFAF 21,000 per month over a period of 5 years. For the first phase of this programme, the amount committed is CFAF 18,459,000.
Furthermore, HCRRUN’s visibility at the international level was felt with the organisation in Lomé of the sixth African forum on the state of transitional justice in Africa, in partnership with the AU and the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR). This meeting, which brought together nearly 300 participants from the African continent, was an opportunity for the institution to share the Togolese experience in implementing transitional justice, by informing participants about the progress made in the process in Togo.
“At the time of reporting back to the people, HCRRUN can be pleased with the results achieved this year. According to the experts’ statistics presented to you, 3,361 victims were satisfied in 2022 as part of the fifth phase of implementation of the reparations programme. The satisfaction rate, calculated on the basis of victims’ perception of the services offered to them, is estimated at 98.87%. From the same statistics, it emerges that from December 2017 to December 2022, the operations made it possible overall to cover a total of 23,639 victims”, emphasised the President of HCRRUN, Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya, during her address.
