HCRRUN began compensating the non-vulnerable victims of the 2005 socio-political events in the Savanes Region on 4 June 2018, starting with beneficiaries from the Tône, Tandjouaré, Cinkassé and Kpendjal Prefectures. The compensation sessions were held over two days at the Dapaong City Hall, where around twenty beneficiaries were expected.

At the opening of the sessions, Mr Evalo Wiyao, First Rapporteur of HCRRUN, Me Joseph Kokou KOFFIGOH, Resource Person at HCRRUN, and Mr Tchimbiandja Douti YENDOUKOA, Prefect of Tône, encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation by accepting this support from the Togolese State as recognition of the suffering they had endured.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation and prayed that such events would never again occur in Togo.

The compensation sessions continued in Mango on 6 June 2018, where nearly all the beneficiaries expected from Oti Prefecture were present. Mr Evalo Wiyao welcomed their strong participation, describing it as a demonstration of their commitment to the ongoing reparations process. He encouraged them to accept the compensation in a spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness.

As in Dapaong, the Prefect of Oti, Lieutenant-Colonel Ouadja Gbandi, expressed, on behalf of the people of Oti, his gratitude to all those whose efforts had made the implementation of the victims’ reparations programme possible.

Following the sessions, the beneficiaries returned home, awaiting the collection of their compensation cheques from the bank.
