HCRRUN began compensating the “non-vulnerable” victims of 2005 in the Savanes Region on Monday, June 4, starting with the prefectures of Tône, Tandjouare, Cinkassé and Kendjal. The Dapaong City Hall hosted the proceedings for two days to receive the twenty or so victims expected at this stage.
At the opening of the proceedings, Mr Wiyao Evalo, First Rapporteur of HCRRUN, Me Joseph Kokou Koffigoh, resource person at HCRRUN, and Tchimbiandja Douti Yendoukoa, Prefect of Tône, called on the victims to forgive and reconcile by accepting this support from the Togolese State as recognition for the misfortunes that befell them.
The victims expressed their satisfaction and implored God’s mercy upon Togo so that these events never happen again on the Land of our Ancestors.
In Mango on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, almost all the victims expected for the Grand Oti were present. Mr Wiyao thus welcomed the mobilisation of these victims, which demonstrates their commitment to the ongoing reparations process, before inviting them to accept these compensations from the State wholeheartedly and to forgive.
As in Dapaong, the Prefect of Oti, Lieutenant-Colonel Ouadja Gbandi, expressed, on behalf of the people of Grand Oti, his gratitude to the entire political class that made it possible to establish this victim reparations programme.
With relieved hearts, the victims returned home, awaiting the next day to go and collect their cheque at the bank.
