The High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) continues to implement its Scholarship Programme for Orphans of Victims of the 2005 Socio-Political Events. Following the successful pilot phase, during which approximately one hundred orphaned children were enrolled, HCRRUN admitted 58 additional beneficiaries, including 22 girls, from all regions of the country during a ceremony held on 9 December 2022.

Each beneficiary received financial assistance amounting to CFAF 126,000, corresponding to six months of educational support under the programme.

The assistance was warmly welcomed by the beneficiaries’ parents and legal guardians, who expressed their appreciation for this initiative and the relief it provides in supporting the children’s education.

The Scholarship Programme is implemented in accordance with Recommendation No. 49 of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR), which provides for educational support to the children of deceased victims of the 2005 socio-political events.

In line with this recommendation, each eligible orphan is entitled to a total educational grant of CFAF 1,260,000, disbursed over a period of five years. The assistance is paid at the rate of CFAF 252,000 per year, equivalent to CFAF 21,000 per month, to help cover school fees, educational materials and other education-related expenses.

Through this programme, HCRRUN continues to reaffirm its commitment to supporting the education and well-being of vulnerable children while contributing to the implementation of the reparations recommended by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission as part of Togo’s transitional justice process.
