Médjé: HCRRUN Inaugurates new school Infrastructure as Part of the Community Reparations Programme
On 2 September 2025, the High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) officially handed over newly constructed school infrastructure in Médjé, located in Kpélé Prefecture. The ceremony brought together administrative, local and traditional authorities, as well as members of the beneficiary communities, highlighting the significance of this initiative, which forms part of the Community Reparations Programme recommended by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR).
A Symbolic Act of Reparation and Reconciliation
The construction of this infrastructure implements Recommendation No. 54 of the CVJR, which calls for collective and community reparations in localities affected by intercommunity conflicts or population displacement. Such initiatives are intended to restore trust, promote reconciliation and strengthen social cohesion through the provision of public-interest infrastructure.
In her address, the President of HCRRUN, Mrs Awa NANA-DABOYA, emphasized the symbolic importance of the project:
“Every piece of infrastructure we build is more than a physical structure; it is a living symbol of reparation, reconciliation and lasting peace. Today, HCRRUN hands over this school infrastructure with the conviction that our children will receive an education here founded on the values of mutual forgiveness, respect for diversity and peaceful coexistence, while rejecting tribal hatred, sectarianism, exclusion and violence in all their forms.”
Infrastructure Designed to Meet Community Needs
In addition to modern classrooms, the new school is equipped with a solar-powered borehole, a public water standpipe, a solar energy system supplying electricity to the facility, and solar-powered street lighting to improve safety and ensure adequate lighting throughout the site.
These facilities significantly enhance the learning environment for pupils while improving access to essential social services for the entire community.
Gratitude from the Beneficiary Community
Speaking on behalf of the people of Médjé, the Mayor of Kpélé 1 Municipality, Mr Batchey Komlan, expressed his sincere appreciation to HCRRUN and the Government for this important reparative initiative. He noted that the new infrastructure represents a meaningful step towards restoring dignity, strengthening social cohesion and promoting sustainable community development.
HCRRUN Reaffirms Its Commitment
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic ribbon-cutting and the unveiling of commemorative plaques.
Through this initiative, HCRRUN reaffirms its commitment to the continued implementation of the Reparations Programme, under which similar community infrastructure has already been constructed in several localities across the country, alongside the provision of individual reparations to eligible victims.
By providing the community of Médjé with a modern and functional educational facility, HCRRUN continues to contribute to healing the wounds of the past while laying the foundations for a more peaceful and united future for children and generations to come.
