Launched on Saturday, November 16, 2019, in Djéréhouyé, community reparations took shape during the week of December 18-20, 2019. During these days, HCRRUN held discussion and exchange meetings with the communities in conflict in this locality.
Beyond the communities, HCRRUN also met with administrative authorities, national and local elected officials from the Ogou prefecture, and various other dignitaries.
These exchanges aim to gain understanding of the problem in all its aspects and to consider solution approaches with the participation of the parties in conflict.
In accordance with Recommendation 54, “The CVJR recommends that community and collective reparations be prioritized in cases of intercommunity conflicts and population displacements. These reparations, which may take the form of public utility works or development projects, must be distinguished from ordinary State projects. Furthermore, the CVJR recommends that particular attention be given to land issues, traditional chieftaincy, and abuse of authority, which are often at the root of these intercommunity conflicts. Finally, the CVJR recommends that, where conditions permit, traditional reconciliation or mediation actions be undertaken to restore cohesion between social groups in conflict“.
