HCRRUN calls for the preservation of the achievements of peace and national reconciliation
Message from HCRRUN on the occasion of the presidential election of February 22, 2020
The High Commissioner for Reconciliation and Strengthening National Unity (HCRRUN) is closely monitoring the presidential election process currently underway in our country.
It commends the high-mindedness of the candidates and their supporters, which contributed to the preservation of peace throughout the electoral campaign.
Furthermore, HCRRUN, in its mission to seek peaceful coexistence, and having noted that the voting took place calmly throughout the day on February 22, 2020, issues a vibrant appeal to candidates, supporters, and the population as a whole to preserve and strengthen this climate of peace and cohesion while awaiting the results.
For HCRRUN, national reconciliation also involves peaceful elections, as desired by all Togolese people. In this sense, HCRRUN continues to convey, through the Local Peace Committees—its true liaisons with grassroots communities—messages calling for the preservation of the achievements of peace and national reconciliation, as it has always done since the beginning of its mission.
Finally, and in the interest of peace and reconciliation—values of social cohesion very dear to the Togolese people—HCRRUN exhorts all candidates to use legal channels for any potential electoral disputes.
