HCRRUN Message on the Occasion of the Presidential Election of February 22, 2020

The High Commission for Reconciliation and Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) is closely monitoring the presidential election process currently underway in our country.

It commends the statesmanship demonstrated by the candidates and their supporters, which contributed to preserving peace throughout the electoral campaign.

Furthermore, in keeping with its mission to promote peaceful coexistence, and having noted that voting proceeded peacefully throughout the day on February 22, 2020, HCRRUN makes a strong appeal to the candidates, their supporters, and the population as a whole to preserve and strengthen this climate of peace and social cohesion while awaiting the announcement of the results.

For HCRRUN, national reconciliation also involves the holding of peaceful elections, as desired by the Togolese people. In this regard, HCRRUN continues to convey, through the Local Peace Committees (LPCs)—its true links with grassroots communities—messages calling for the preservation of the gains made in peace and national reconciliation, as it has consistently done since the beginning of its mission.

Finally, in the interest of peace and reconciliation—values of social cohesion that are deeply cherished by the Togolese people—HCRRUN urges all candidates to use legal channels to address any potential electoral disputes.
