The women of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) celebrated the 110th edition of March 8 in their own way through a panel of discussions and sharing of experiences by women leaders. Gathered around the theme “Women’s Leadership: For an Equal Future in the World of COVID-19“, they reflected and exchanged views on their social and professional realities and encouraged each other to move forward for the full enjoyment of their rights.

On Friday, March 5, in the lead-up to this celebration, these women from the OTR formed an association to defend their interests and better face the challenges they encounter. A bureau of 9 members was established to preside over the destiny of this association. To this end, they co-opted Mrs. Awa NANA Daboya, Mediator of the Togolese Republic and President of HCRRUN, as patron of this association. A choice that is not fortuitous according to the Director of Communication, Mrs. MAGBENGA Komnaka: “We chose her because she is one of the Togolese women who have had a long career in the administration since a time when it was not easy to see a woman emerge. She is a woman for whom we have great admiration due to her humility and the availability she has always demonstrated. “

Mrs. Awa NANA Daboya said she was honored by the choice of her person and promised to truly support them in achieving their objectives.

As a reminder, International Women’s Day (IWD) was born in 1908, when 15,000 women marched in New York City to demand shorter working hours, better wages, and the right to vote. It was the American Socialist Party that declared the first National Women’s Day, one year later. The idea of making this day international came from a woman named Clara Zetkin. She suggested the idea in 1910 at an international conference of working women in Copenhagen. There were 100 women, from 17 countries, who unanimously accepted her proposal. The first edition was officially held in 1911.
