During a press conference held on Friday, 16 February 2018, the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) announced the continuation of psycho-medical care activities and compensation for vulnerable victims, which began last December.

These activities are taking place at the new HCRRUN premises located in Cité OUA, opposite the Constitutional Court.

This meeting also provided an opportunity for the Institution to present a mid-term review of the victim support process.

According to Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya, “HCRRUN had set itself the objective of supporting, during this first phase, the 137 victims of the 2005 events identified by the CVJR. However, at the end of this pilot phase in December, only 67 victims had been effectively supported. The reason for this figure is simply the highly pronounced state of vulnerability of certain victims, a condition involving significant health issues requiring particular and sustained attention to be provided to them.”

The NGO AIMES-Afrique, which is responsible for the psycho-medical component of the mission, praised the friendly and professional environment in which the activities were carried out.“To date, we have examined 88 victims, including 67 from the Savanes, Kara, Centrale, Plateaux, and Maritime Regions, and 21 from the Commune of Lomé, where activities are scheduled to continue next week,” stated Dr. Serges Kodom Michel, President of AIMES-Afrique.
