As part of the implementation of Recommendation 54 of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) on community and collective reparations, the High Commission for Reconciliation held, on 8 August 2023, the handover ceremony for the medical and social centre in the village of Niki Niki, a locality located in the canton of Tchaloudé in the prefecture of Blitta. The inaugurated building covers an area of 1,300 m² and consists of 9 rooms, one assigned to each of the following services: consultation, care, hospitalisation, prenatal consultation, childbirth, newborn care, rest, vaccination and on-call duty. This public health facility is fully fenced and also includes a laboratory, a pharmacy and accommodation for healthcare staff. It is supplied with drinking water from a borehole and electrified using solar energy.

The handover ceremony for this facility took place in the presence of the President of HCRRUN, the representative of the Ministry of Health, as well as local and traditional authorities of the prefecture of Blitta.

In her address, the President of HCRRUN, Mrs Awa Nana Daboya, praised the determination and political will of the Head of State, His Excellency Mr Faure Gnassingbé, President of the Republic, which made it possible to establish this infrastructure. She was keen to specify that “The decision to build a medical and social centre is by no means HCRRUN’s choice. The construction of this health infrastructure was requested by the people of Niki Niki and the surrounding villages following several consultations between HCRRUN teams and representatives of the communities”.

The Prefect of Blitta, also present at the ceremony, wished to thank HCRRUN which “for six years has travelled across our country to sow the seeds of forgiveness and Reconciliation. With the utmost discretion, without media fanfare, this institution soothes hearts wounded by our political quarrels. It does so with justice and total neutrality, regardless of our political affiliations. The medical and social centre standing before us is built for all Togolese, because illnesses have no political affiliation. On behalf of the people of the Prefecture of Blitta and on behalf of the people of Niki Niki, I would like to take this opportunity, during this ceremony, to congratulate and thank the President of HCRRUN”.

And to make the centre operational within a short timeframe, HCRRUN will acquire the essential basic equipment required for the effective start of care.
