After compensation, it is time for listening. In Guérin-Kouka, the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) is opening a new phase of its action with the communities of the Dankpen Prefecture.

The opening ceremony of the listening mission was held this Tuesday, 29 September, in the presence of the Prefect of Dankpen, Colonel Akpamoura Koffi, mayors and local elected officials, traditional and religious authorities, as well as several representatives of the communities.

This mission is part of the continuation of the work initiated by HCRRUN in Dankpen. In June 2025, the institution organized a compensation session there for victims of the 1992 intercommunal violence. Nearly 900 victims were then supported, in accordance with the recommendations of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR).

One year later, HCRRUN is back in the field. But with a different approach: listening.

Listening to the authorities. Listening to the communities. Listening to women and young people. Also listening to the actors who, on a daily basis, work to maintain social cohesion.

In his welcome address, the Prefect of Dankpen, Colonel Akpamoura Koffi, commended HCRRUN’s approach and its commitment to the population.

Taking the floor in turn, the President of HCRRUN, Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya, recalled the meaning of this new phase. Reparation is not limited to compensation. It must also help restore relationships, strengthen trust and create the conditions for lasting social cohesion.

This orientation aligns with HCRRUN’s very mission, which includes promoting peaceful coexistence as part of the implementation of the CVJR’s recommendations.

The first day is devoted to administrative and local authorities, as well as traditional and religious authorities. From the afternoon onwards, the discussions enabled participants to share their observations, concerns and expectations.

The second day will be devoted to grassroots actors: Village Development Committees (CVD), Neighborhood Development Committees (CDQ), Local Peace Committees (CLP), women’s organizations, youth associations and representatives of civil society.

The third day will be devoted to pooling the various contributions. This will involve revisiting the discussions, identifying points of convergence and bringing forward avenues around a unifying project.

The mission will conclude with the signing of an agreement between the stakeholders, which will define each party’s commitments for the implementation of the selected project.
