In the exercise of her duties as Ombudsman of the Republic, the President of HCRRUN, Mrs. Awa Nana Daboya, proceeded on Wednesday, 28 November 2018, with the payment of outstanding entitlements owed to former Togolese employees of the liquidated Air Afrique company, in accordance with Judgments No. 012/08 of 6 March 2008 and No. 29/08 of 4 September 2018 issued by the Court of Appeal of Lomé.

In this context, the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic convened the former employees of the Pan-African airline company and informed them of the procedure undertaken, which resulted in the effective payment of part of their outstanding entitlements.

Accordingly, out of a total amount exceeding CFAF 196 million in principal amounts, damages, and interest owed to them, the Government of Togo released CFAF 124,523,974, which was paid to the beneficiaries as outstanding principal entitlements, pending settlement of the remaining amounts relating to damages and interest.

Established in the early 1960s, the Pan-African airline company enjoyed a period of significant growth before facing management challenges in the late 1970s, due in particular to successive oil crises and the devaluation of the CFA franc in 1994. Declared bankrupt in February 2002, the company was placed under judicial liquidation in April of the same year.

Through this action, the Ombudsman of the Republic acted within the framework of her mandate, as provided for under Article 8, paragraph 2 of Organic Law No. 2003-21 of 9 December 2003 relating to the status and powers of the Ombudsman of the Republic.
