Message from the President

At the dawn of this New Year 2019, the High Commission for Reconciliation and the Strengthening of National Unity (HCRRUN) gives thanks to Almighty and Merciful God for enabling it to successfully fulfil the mission entrusted to it throughout the past year.

With gratitude to God the Creator, and on behalf of my fellow Members of the HCRRUN, its Staff and in my own name, I extend to all segments of our society my warmest wishes for a Happy, Peaceful and Prosperous New Year 2019.

For the HCRRUN, 2018 was marked by intensive activities devoted to the implementation of the reparations programme, particularly in the areas of medical and psychological care and financial compensation for victims.

The first phase of this programme, which ran for ten (10) months from 12 December 2017 to 17 September 2018, produced encouraging results. These achievements reflect the firm commitment of the Highest State Authorities to “grant fair and equitable reparation to the victims identified and registered by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR),” as stated by H.E. F.E.G. The HCRRUN takes this opportunity to renew its sincere appreciation and highest consideration to the Highest State Authorities for their unwavering support.

  • To the victims who have already benefited from the programme, the HCRRUN expresses its heartfelt gratitude for their trust, mobilisation and commitment throughout the process.
  • To those who are yet to benefit from the programme, I wish to reassure them that the HCRRUN remains fully committed to fulfilling its mandate and that they will be assisted in accordance with the implementation schedule of its activities. Throughout 2019, the HCRRUN will continue the operations initiated under the second phase of the reparations programme in order to progressively meet their legitimate expectations.
  • To all Togolese citizens, women and men alike, the HCRRUN recalls “the noble objective of building a reconciled and peaceful society, imbued with tolerance and free from any spirit of vengeance or retaliation,” as reaffirmed by H.E. F.E.G.

The HCRRUN further reiterates the importance of living together in harmony, peace and mutual respect.

“Reconciliation being both an objective and a hope,” as stated by H.E. F.E.G., the HCRRUN calls upon every citizen to contribute to the implementation of the recommendations and the reparations programme entrusted to it by the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR), which the Government is implementing with the support and assistance of its international friends and partners.

May all find herein the renewed expression of the HCRRUN’s gratitude.

May the New Year bring Peace, Work and Success to all.

Mrs. Awa NANA-DABOYA
President of the HCRRUN
