“The roles and responsibilities of actors and stakeholders in the reform process” was the theme that marked this Thursday, July 14, 2016, the proceedings of the national workshop for reflection and exchange on political and institutional reforms, which has been open since Monday, July 11, in Lomé.

The various panelists analyzed and put into perspective the participation of different actors and stakeholders in the reform process in Togo.

Former Prime Minister Séléagodji Ahoomey-Zunu explained that the lack of consensus, which the political class has been pursuing for years, remains the fundamental problem blocking political and institutional reforms.

Regarding the armed forces, Lieutenant-Colonel Awizoba noted that their role and responsibilities are the defense of territorial integrity and the security of people and property. He further insisted on the necessity of their republican and apolitical nature.

Two other sub-panels, composed on one hand of research professors and religious figures, and on the other hand of civil society representatives, also presented in turn the scientific, sociological, and religious approaches to the reforms.

Participants agreed to meet for the general debate the following day, the final day of this workshop’s proceedings.
