This year, the AU theme for 2022 provides an opportunity to address the interconnected concerns of development and justice, as the majority of armed conflicts today occur in countries with low levels of development. Poverty, inequality, and underdevelopment may not in themselves be the cause of armed conflicts and human rights violations, but they can be contributing or enabling factors.

WHEN: September 7 to 9, 2022

TIME: From 09:00 West Africa Time (WAT) | 11:00 SAST | 12:00 EAT

WHERE: Hôtel 2 Février Lomé, Togo (All sessions will also be hosted on virtual platforms and participants are invited to register to ensure their participation and attendance)

Register in advance to attend virtually:

https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUrc-igpjksGdQNkShltvh-7N3cvV94v8Nc

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting

OBJECTIVES:

The sixth edition of the Continental Forum on TJ aims to achieve the following three objectives:

Examine the extent to which TJ processes have (or have not) integrated the aforementioned initiatives to ensure and build the Africa we want, in accordance with the AU Year theme and Agenda 2063;

Assess the application and applicability of transitional justice to address emerging challenges and crises such as COVID-19, climate change, intra- and cross-border conflicts, all of which pose a threat to the resilience of African populations, their food security, and their socio-economic development;

Generate concrete and practical ideas on how to effectively implement the AU-TJP and the study on transitional justice and human and peoples’
