The esplanade of the Palais des Congr\u00e8s in Lom\u00e9 will serve as the venue from April 26 to May 26, 2017, for an exhibition on the official visit of the late President Sylvanus OLYMPIO, the Father of Togo’s Independence, to the United States of America on March 22, 1962.<\/p>\n

The esplanade of the Palais des Congr\u00e8s in Lom\u00e9 hosted an exhibition from April 26 to May 26, 2017, dedicated to the official visit of the late President Sylvanus Olympio, the Father of Togo\u2019s Independence, to the United States of America on March 22, 1962.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was announced following discussions held on Thursday, April 20, 2017, between the Members of HCRRUN and His Excellency David Gilmour, Ambassador of the United States to Togo, who was accompanied by two members of his delegation.<\/p>\n

The initiative formed part of the implementation of the Reparations Programme, in accordance with Recommendation 46 of the CVJR, which states that \u201cthe Commission recommends that tribute be paid to certain deceased figures who held important positions of responsibility and served the Togolese nation\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

This courtesy and working visit provided an opportunity to discuss the practical arrangements for organising the exhibition of archival documents and photographs relating to the first President of Togo.<\/p>\n

According to the Ambassador of the United States, \u201cThis exhibition will highlight the historical ties between our two countries and contribute to HCRRUN\u2019s efforts to restore the memory of certain national figures. For us, it is a demonstration of our support for HCRRUN, and we are proud to contribute to the fulfilment of its mission.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President of HCRRUN, Mrs Awa Nana-Daboya, expressed her gratitude to her guests for their support and voiced the hope that revisiting this chapter of the country\u2019s history would contribute to healing memories and fostering national reconciliation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
