Through an official ceremony held this Friday, March 24, 2017, in Lom\u00e9, the High Commissioner for Reconciliation and Strengthening National Unity (HCRRUN) launched activities for the second part of its mission: reparations.  The ceremony was presided over by Prime Minister Komi S\u00e9lom Klassou, representing Head of State Faure Gnassingb\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\"\"In his speech, the Prime Minister expressed the Togolese government’s will and commitment to supporting this process. ” The Government, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, has made the Reparations Program an imperative. In this spirit, and in accordance with the White Paper adopted on April 3, 2014, the Government is resolutely committed to doing everything possible for the success of the process<\/em>,” he indicated. He then recalled that the Council of Ministers held on Thursday, March 23, 2017, established the regulatory basis for the compensation fund known as the “Special Fund,” while also specifying the management body to allow HCRRUN to become operational without delay. Thus, according to the Prime Minister, the process starting today will materialize in the coming days, notably through the progressive compensation for damages suffered by various individuals. <\/p>\n

The President of HCRRUN, Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya, recalled that the results of the CVJR’s work led to the proposal of a reparations program grouping victims of events into three phases: events from 1958 to 1962; events from 1963 to 2004; and events of 2005. This final phase is subdivided into two sub-events: those of February 2005 and those of April 2005.  <\/p>\n

” When we consider that out of a total of 22,415 victims identified across all three periods from 1958 to 2005, Phase 3 alone accounts for 7,075 victims, including all vulnerable victims requiring urgent medical care, it is clear why HCRRUN is prioritizing this phase, where memories are still painful and recent<\/em>,” stated Mrs. Awa Nana-Daboya.<\/p>\n

Fi\"\"nally, she expressed her gratitude to the government for once again responding positively to the measures proposed by HCRRUN, thereby enabling the successful fulfillment of its mission. “Our institution, now equipped with its resources, will apply itself to its task and responsibilities<\/em>,” concluded the President of HCRRUN.<\/p>\n

Her intervention was preceded by a welcome address from the President of the Special Delegation of the city of Lom\u00e9, Rear Admiral Fogan Ad\u00e9gnon. He expressed his delight that Lom\u00e9 was chosen to host this ceremony.  <\/p>\n
