Over the course of the two-day programme, participants gained a clearer understanding of their roles and responsibilities within their respective departments through a series of presentations on key institutional topics.

The sessions covered the following themes: The Mandate and Responsibilities of the Ombudsman of the Republic; The Complaint Handling Process at the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic; The Ombudsman of the Republic’s Cooperation Framework; The Mandate and Responsibilities of HCRRUN; An Overview of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) Reparations Programme; The Victim Support Process; and Career Development in the Civil Service, including the various stages of career progression.

In her opening address, the Ombudsman of the Republic and President of HCRRUN, Mrs Awa NANA-DABOYA, welcomed the Government’s employment policy, particularly the recruitment of new civil servants through the national civil service recruitment process. She noted that, despite budgetary constraints, the Government’s decision to recruit thousands of young professionals once again demonstrates the high importance attached to youth employment, at a time when unemployment remains a major challenge shared by countries around the world.

Mrs Awa NANA-DABOYA also extended her heartfelt congratulations to the newly assigned civil servants on their successful recruitment, describing it as the beginning of their professional careers in public service. She encouraged them to uphold the core values of respect for hierarchy, diligence, integrity and commitment in the discharge of their duties.

“Allow me to emphasize that public service cannot be regarded as a sinecure.
