Whether active or retired, victims were identified based on the events during which they suffered harm.

The President of HCRRUN, in opening the session, stated that ” Today, we are embarking on a mission to compensate our military brothers and relatives who were victims of violence. We do not wish to do things exclusively. Whatever one may say, a soldier is first and foremost a civilian in uniform and a full-fledged Togolese citizen. If the political class has resolved concerns with the global political agreement opting for transitional justice and recognizing victim status for people, it is inconceivable that a part of the population, because they are uniformed personnel, should be excluded. You are a rigorously hierarchical body, and it takes time to clearly identify things. Therefore, all those who suffered harm between 1958 and 2005 must report to their hierarchy, and it is there that we received lists and information relating to each event to which your harm is linked.”

In a statement read for the occasion, on behalf of all victims, by a retired non-commissioned officer, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic for this act of relief. “In every crisis situation, it is always thought that members of the Armed Forces are perpetrators of violence and commit acts that bring nothing constructive to the nation. We are very touched, very moved today by this session initiated by HCRRUN to compensate us. We had never thought of such an initiative. Indeed, among us, there were people who suffered physical violence, others saw their property destroyed, and still others lost their lives,” said the victim non-commissioned officer. According to the statement, it is not the pecuniary reparation that matters, but the recognition of the work for peace carried out by Armed Forces personnel that is essential. “We wish to present our sincere apologies to the Togolese people and to all those who were victims during our various exercises and interventions for the maintenance of public order,” concluded the FAT agent.

A compensation session was held at the HCRRUN headquarters in Lomé from August 9 to 13 for teachers dismissed in 2000 due to a strike, and then from August 17 to 20, 2021, for defense and security forces personnel who were victims of aggression in the context of political violence in Togo between 1958 and […]

[348,347,346,349

post-10319","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-archives","category-featured","category-news","category-news-2
["GET
